Making The Most Of My Mocks

What you do from now on is more important than the grade you got!

When it comes to mock results, huge numbers of students fall into one of two camps. The first worry too much about what they got. The second, should worry but don't.

But your mock can be a brilliant diagnostic tool - an opportunity for some deep reflection, and a way to work out a proper, strategic plan to improve when it really matters (regardless of your target, or the grade you achieved).

My free checklist guides you towards this with just ten questions, covering before, during and after the mock. I reckon to do it properly and come up with a sensible idea of what to do next will take less than 15 minutes: it's a tiny investment towards your lifelong success.

Best of all, the checklist can be used for any subject, and at either GCSE or A Level.

🌶️ On the other hand, Abel is slightly embarrassed about the quality of his chilli harvest. There's always 2025.

    - A MANIFESTO -

" ... there is an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers, that with his Tiger's heart wrapped in a Players hide, supposes he is as well able to bombast out a blank verse as the best of you [...] is in his own conceit the only Shake-scene in a country ... " Robert Greene, A Groatsworth of Wit (1592)

"We won't be told that English is 'boring'. Or that we're not smart enough, or rich enough, or that somehow Shakespeare, poetry, and English isn't for people like us. Whatever that means. We definitely won't be told it's in another language.

Who are 'they' to tell us that the best written art doesn't belong to us?

We won't 'stay in our lane'.

English gets more important day by day. In a 'post-truth' age, we need to be able to communicate clearly, and persuasively; it's essential we understand what, how, and why people are communicating with us. We know that literature is a key way of understanding the world around us, who we are, and how we fit into that wider world.

    We are 'Upstarts' ..."
